Liz Truss, UK (British) Prime Minister Resigns

The UK (British) Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation. Mary Elizabeth Truss was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II. It was a few days before her death. British Prime Minister Liz Truss’s resignation was largely driven by the need to reverse her tax cut program. Her tax cut program shocked the British financial markets and caused controversy within the ruling Conservative Party.

Truss said in a statement outside Downing Street: “We set out a vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.”

“I recognize though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to announce that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.”

The time of the new Prime Minister is still only 45 days. It is considered the shortest tenure of a Prime Minister in the UK. Announcing her resignation in front of her official residence in Downing Street, Prime Minister Liz Truss said she had failed to deliver on the promises she had made when she became party leader and had lost confidence in herself. However, Prime Minister Liz Truss stated that she will remain in office until a new party leader is chosen.
